The Happiness Crusaders
WHO’S HAPPY?? Ha. Hahaha. I know, I know. Life is hard, the world kind of sucks, and we’re writers. Sooo…. yeah. I’m very, very fortunate. My life is pretty awesome, aside from putting my dog down last month. (Sorry for the blog post delays, btw. That kind of ruined my motivation to do much of anything. >.> ) But not many people, especially millennials, can say the same. A lot of us are wrestling with depression and anxiety and a plethora of other issues. This isn’t new, and millennials aren’t the only ones feeling blue. (HA I rhymed. Anyway.) I’ve spent the last few weeks helping several dear friends cope…

Let’s Create a NaNoWriMo Cover!
Afternoon, folks! Just because I’m a social media pariah these days doesn’t mean I won’t update Novelarnia! And wouldn’t you know it, WordPress has a cool option to advertise new blog posts without me ever needing to log into Twitter or facebook. Pretty swanky stuff. 😀 So, National Novel Writing Month is right around the corner! Are you participating? For those who said yes, did you know that, according to the NaNo peeps themselves, having a novel cover for NaNo increases your chances of winning by 60%?

Camp NaNoWriMo Is Coming!
Are you prepared? Camp NaNo isn’t as intense as National Novel Writing Month, way off in November. During Camp, you can set your own goals–customize everything. So if you want to edit, and keep track in hours, that’s okay! Or if you maybe only want to attempt 25,000 words instead of 50,000, awesome!! Either way, get writing. Because nothing good will happen if you just sit around waiting for inspiration. It’s time to dig into the trenches, and Camp is the perfect opportunity!

Top Ten Favorite Story Starters from Pinterest
Hi! This is Annette, one of Becki’s writer pals. (Mostly, I pretend to write while Becki actually writes… but who can say “no” to coffee with a friend?) So I spend a lot of time on Pinterest. Which is why I’m here today to share with you my ten favorite story starters that I’ve found via Pinterest. They’re all pictures, so you can let your imagination run wild with these. You can use them from a simple elementary school journal prompt, to perhaps an award winning novel. I will also include some links to other story starter boards near the bottom, in case you want to find some yourself. Each…

How to Fight the Distraction Unicorn
I dunno about you guys, but I get distracted easily when writing. Â It used to be really, really bad. Â I’d start a novel, get 10,000 words in, and stop because a shiny new idea took priority. Way I figured it, I wasn’t making money off this. Â No one (except Beta Krissy) was waiting on that old story. Â Why not chase after the new idea? Â I know which one is more fun to write, after all!

On Location: Boca Raton, Florida
So, I’m heading on a Caribbean cruise;Â I’ll be boarding the ship today, actually! Â Which unfortunately means no updates next week. Â But to tide you lovely folks over, here’s another “On Location.” We all love rich characters. Â People flaunting their money and the high life, living in mansions, driving fancy cars, throwing money around like it’s just colored paper. Â Maybe your novel has a millionaire or billionaire! Have you thought about where that character lives?

On Location: Portland, Maine
Okay, I admit.  Growing up in Phoenix, I didn’t actually know there was a Portland in Maine until I was 23.  I just always assumed the one in Oregon was the end-all, be-all Portland. Then I found the TV show Haven, which has hot guys and excellent acting and a supernatural twist, and is based in the fictional town of Haven, Maine.  And they kept talking about how they were a short drive from Portland, and “2 hours from Boston.” As a flight attendant, I knew that there was no way to get to Portland from Boston in two hours.  (I’m so smart.)  So you can understand my confusion. (… This is…
