Camp NaNoWriMo Is Coming!
Are you prepared? Camp NaNo isn’t as intense as National Novel Writing Month, way off in November. During Camp, you can set your own goals–customize everything. So if you want to edit, and keep track in hours, that’s okay! Or if you maybe only want to attempt 25,000 words instead of 50,000, awesome!! Either way, get writing. Because nothing good will happen if you just sit around waiting for inspiration. It’s time to dig into the trenches, and Camp is the perfect opportunity!

You Are a Badass
Okay, folks! Sorry for my sabbatical, but life got busy. 😛 Let’s take a break from writing to talk about life, huh? I’ve always been an optimist.  That’s no secret to anyone who knows me.  What they don’t know is that for the last 6 months, I’ve been slipping in and out of depression.  It ranged anywhere from feeling dissatisfied all the time to sobbing in the airplane lavatory while working. Yeah.  Not good.

Oneshot: Vegas Wedding
I totally forgot it was Monday, and since I didn’t have time to work on a real blog update, here, have a oneshot.  This one is about two side characters in my Las Vegas magicians story.  Enjoy! They’re a truly lovely couple. Surprising, really, since the priest doesn’t see many of those in Vegas, especially not around midnight. The man’s name is Henry Ballard, and the woman Jennifer Wagner, and he calls her Jen and she calls him Hen, and it’s all very… Lovely.

DFWCon Panel: Diversity in Writing
If you’re on Twitter, you’re probably aware there’s a big push for diversity in novels–and rightly so! Â The #WhiteWashedOUT hashtag is trending all month, pointing out all the diverse roles in Hollywood that have been filled by white actors, and why this sucks. Â The #MSWL hashtag has agents from all over the country pining for every race and religion.

A Positive Outlook
So, it occurred to me that I haven’t done a whole post dedicated to inspiring writers. Â Which is weird, since writing is 10% typing, 90% mental. Or is that baseball…?

Top Ten Favorite Story Starters from Pinterest
Hi! This is Annette, one of Becki’s writer pals. (Mostly, I pretend to write while Becki actually writes… but who can say “no” to coffee with a friend?) So I spend a lot of time on Pinterest. Which is why I’m here today to share with you my ten favorite story starters that I’ve found via Pinterest. They’re all pictures, so you can let your imagination run wild with these. You can use them from a simple elementary school journal prompt, to perhaps an award winning novel. I will also include some links to other story starter boards near the bottom, in case you want to find some yourself. Each…

How to Fight the Distraction Unicorn
I dunno about you guys, but I get distracted easily when writing. Â It used to be really, really bad. Â I’d start a novel, get 10,000 words in, and stop because a shiny new idea took priority. Way I figured it, I wasn’t making money off this. Â No one (except Beta Krissy) was waiting on that old story. Â Why not chase after the new idea? Â I know which one is more fun to write, after all!

You Finished That Novel… Now What?
On March 29th, I did it. Â I typed those two fateful words: THE END. Â Operation Overload is now complete! Â Well, the first draft, anyway. That lasted for about fourteen minutes. Â Then I realized what else I have to do. Â DFWCon is in 23 days, and this manuscript is nowhere near ready to present to an agent. Â No pressure… But before I get into my To-Do list, how about some stats about this novel??

Camp NaNo
My last post was about National Novel Writing Month, but that’s months away, and really, who can wait? Â That’s why they host summer events, cleverly called Camp NaNoWriMo. Â And guess what? Â There’s a Camp NaNo starting on April 1st! Â (And that’s no joke!)

My NaNoWriMo History
So, I’ve mentioned National Novel Writing Month before. Â Basically, if you weren’t around for that post, it’s the most amazingly awesome writing event ALL YEAR. I’m not rabid. Â It’s just that epic. The idea of writing 50,000 words in a month is super intimidating to some people, for good reason. Â That’s a lot of words! Â But hey, 2016 will be my 9th year as a participant, not including all the Camp NaNos I’ve attempted. And so far, I’ve lost more than I’ve won.
